Metal anthropologist/film maker Sam Dunn of Banger Films will be launching his Rock Icons show on Vh1. A statement was issued on the matter:

Greetings Bangers…
Happy New Year!
We’re kicking it off with a huge announcement about our newest television series, premiering next month on Vh1 Classic: Rock Icons.

Watch a teaser video here.

Over the past year, I’ve been travelling to meet with some of the biggest names in rock and metal music. Some of them will be very familiar to you, like the metal heroes I’ve had the privilege to interview before, people like Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Joe Elliott of Def Leppard, Geddy Lee of Rush and Slash. I’ve also had the chance to sit down for the first time with such iconic artists as Ann Wilson of Heart and Daryl Hall. I traveled to Dave Mustaine’s winery, Nikki Sixx’s radio studio, Billy Corgan’s home and even got invited back to the Texas sanctum of Ted Nugent. It’s been a blast really getting to know each of these musicians and I can’t wait to share their stories with you.

With Rock Icons, we feel strongly that what we’ve made is a different kind of music biography show. One that’s actually about the music and what drives these artists to create the way they do. Truly, what makes them an icon.

Mark your calendars and tune in each Saturday night! (If you are outside of America, sit tight for further announcements about Rock Icons coming to your country.)

Rock Icons premieres Saturday, February 21 at 10pm EST on Vh1 Classic. And the first episode features one of our fave artists of all-time, the remarkable Geddy Lee.

Horns,
Sam Dunn

The Soundgarden documentary that was previously announced will officially begin production. Film director Sam Dunn and Banger Films has issued the following statement:

Greetings Bangers…
Yes, the rumours are true and we are excited to officially announce our next documentary: Soundgarden!
Next year, we start production on the first-ever feature doc on one of American’s biggest hard rock bands. We first met Soundgarden while working on the Grunge episode of our series Metal Evolution but this time we’ll be digging deep into their history and comeback for a full-length film. And we need help from Soundgarden fans in our search for great archival material to tell their story:
If you have rare Soundgarden material – personal photos, bootleg audio or video, concert posters, etc. – we want to hear from you. Please send a description of what you’ve got to info at Banger Films with the subject “Soundgarden Fan Submission.”

Banger Films Seeking Fan Submissions For Soundgarden Documentary

Banger Films is putting together a Soundgarden documentary and are seeking out fan submissions of old band-related mementos, footage and audio for possible inclusion. The following was sent out:

It’s happening – the Soundgarden story will soon be the subject of a feature documentary film. And you can help. As we dig deep into our vaults, we ask that you, the fans, dig into yours.
Personal photographs, bootleg video and audio, collected concert posters – your rare piece of music history could be the missing piece we need.

If you want a chance for your memento to become a permanent part of Soundgarden history, send a description of what you’ve got to info@bangerfilms.com with the subject “Soundgarden Fan Submission”.

The Soundgarden film is being produced by Banger Films, makers of the essential heavy metal documentary Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey (2006), SXSW Audience Award and Juno-winning Iron Maiden: Flight 666 (2009), Grammy-nominated and Tribeca Audience Award-winning Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage (2010), the “doc opera” Super Duper Alice Cooper (2014), as well as the biggest-ever TV series on metal and hard rock, Metal Evolution (2011).
