Back in 2018, armed with debut album Tū (Napalm Records) and a reputation for blistering live performances, teenagers Alien Weaponry arrived on the scene with a bang. Fusing groove metal with influences derived from their own Māori culture, the band possess a highly individual sound, but one that in some quarters has also appeared to earn them the disappointingly reductive nickname of “The New Zealand Sepultura”.
Modern Metal legends Gojira have announced their return to Europe with a headline tour January – March 2022. The new dates, which will be split into two legs, feature special guests Alien Weaponry and Employed To Serve. The first leg kicks off Jan 17th in Finland and closes in France on Feb 9th, with the second leg picking up in The Netherlands on Feb 20th and wrapping in the UK on Mar 14th. Alien Weaponry has announced that the original bassist Ethan Trembath has amicably exited the group to pursue studio work and to spend more time with his family. Replacing Ethan in the band is Turanga Morgan-Edwards who grew up playing music with the band and shares Maori ancestry with the group. The group shared a video making the announcement and even showed all four musicians recording vocals together in the studio. The thrash/group metal group was a revelation internationally the last few year, earning major touring slots and playing festivals all over the world. The band is expected to release new music in 2021, the follow up to 2018’s Tū full-length and 2019’s EP Blinded, both for Napalm Records. Watch the video below.
