Satanic Temple Arson Attack Update

Last Friday night, June 10th, 2022 The Satanic Temple’s headquarters in Salem, Massachusetts was set on fire by an arsonist wearing a t-shirt simple with the word “GOD” printed across the front. Co-founder and musician Lucien Greaves (also of the band Satanic Planet) made his first statement about the attack on his organization.

“We’re a non-theistic religious organization. We don’t worship the devil,” Greaves said. “We don’t believe in a literal Satan. Satan to us is a metaphorical icon that symbolizes the rejection of tyranny.”

The Satanic Temple has raised funds for social causes such as religion-based anti- reproductive rights campaigns. As well as nonreligious sobriety meetings and feminine product drives.

A suspect was arrested and charged with arson, destruction of a place of worship, and civil rights violations. The 42yr old suspect, Daniel Damien Lucey pleaded not guilty to arson, destruction of a place of worship and prayer, and civil rights violation charges during his arraignment in Salem District Court. He’s due back in court next Tuesday to determine whether he can be released or poses a danger. People were inside at the time, but fortunately, no one was hurt. Due to the damage sustained The Satanic Temple of Salem and Salem Art Gallery are temporarily closed until further notice.
