Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” Film Lands Five Academy Award Nominations For 2019

Bohemian Rhapsody, the biopic about the rise of the band Queen and its iconic frontman Freddie Mercury is already the largest grossing film biography about a musician or band ever. They cleaned up recently at the Golden Globes awards winning best picture and best actor for Rami Malek in his portrayal of Mercury. Now the film has been nominated for five Academy Awards, a.k.a. The Oscars or The Oscar Awards.
The film is nominated in the categories of “Best Picture,” “Sound Editing,” “Sound Mixing,” “Film Editing,” and “Best Actor,” for Malek again. Bohemian Rhapsody will compete for the “Best Picture” prize alongside Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, The Favourite, Green Book, Roma, A Star Is Born and Vice.

Presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, this year’s 91st Academy Awards honors films that were released within the 2018 calendar year. The ceremony airs February 24 on ABC and will likely be host-less for the first time in 30 years.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” has already become the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time, bringing in more than $700 million at the worldwide box office.
