My Favourite Concert Memory: Tony Heinrich from Deathrite

Deathrite just released their new opus, Nightmares Reign via Century Media Records. In a guest post for Ghost Cult, frontman Tony Heinrich shares his favorite concert memory ever. It was in the summer of 2015 when KISS (the greatest band in the world) stopped in our hometown Leipzig. We were really excited and ready for a night full of Rock ‘n’ Roll. My brother and Deathrite guitarist Andy was visiting me and after a couple of cold brews, I mentioned that I had some hash cookies leftover from last week. We thought it could probably give us the right smack and get us in the right mood for a crazy live show.

So each of us had one cookie and then we waited for about half an hour and nothing happened. But of course we had to leave soon to catch the train that would take us to the venue. That’s when we decided to have another cookie and fuck! – the moment we finished the second one, the first cookie kicked in.

Normally, I’m not into edibles because they’re weird to handle. But this night was special, so yeah – now I had to deal with it. We caught the train just in time and arrived at the arena. The place was totally packed and we were totally high. Bought more beer, big one-liter units called “the bucket” for each of us and waited for the show to start.

And then: Boom! Explosions everywhere and Kiss begin the night with ‘Detroit Rock City’! We smile, scream and bang our heads throughout the entire show. I mean, those guys are in their sixties, flying through the venue and delivering this phenomenal Rock ’n’ Roll show and we were there in the audience, two kids high as fuck and paralyzed by the power of this unbelievable rock spectacle. It was one of my greatest nights ever, not because I was really high, but because I saw a sick rock ’n’ roll show that was beyond my expectations with one of my most important people and that’s how it’s supposed to be.

And while I’m writing this, I definitely have to buy a ticket for their next year’s Farewell, hahaha!
