MY FAVORITE CONCERT MEMORY: Joel Quartuccio of Being As An Ocean

Being As An Ocean just released their slamming new album Proxy: An A.N.I.M.O. Story! and are currently getting ready for a month of dates for their new European tour kicking off on November 1st. Joel Quartuccio has checked in with not one, but two of his favorite concert memories ever in a guest post for Ghost Cult!

One of my favorite concert memories of all time was the last time I saw mewithoutYou with Pianos Become The Teeth. I have followed mewithoutYou since I was young and getting to see them perform A->B Life all the way through and then all of my favorites from them. The show was incredibly high energy, and I felt like a kid again as I pressed closer and closer to the stage, singing every word at the top of my lungs. Everyone there was having such a blast and had huge smiles on their faces even though some were crying from the emotion of it all. Pianos Become The Teeth’s set had left everyone, including me, pretty emotionally raw, and mewithoutYou only intensified that vibe. It was a seriously beautiful and cathartic night.

Close second: My runner up was the 1st annual California Metal Fest that they held in Los Angeles. It was my first exposure live to some of the metal/hardcore bands that I now hold most dear: Ion Dissonance, Cattle Decapitation, Necrophagist, Job For A Cowboy, Caliban, Suicide Silence, On Broken Wings, to name a few. My mind was fucking blown. I had loved metal and heavy music before those shows, but I was forever changed by the two-day festival. It opened my eyes to the limits that aggressive music can be pushed and my imagination to what an engaging, intense show should feel like.
