GUEST POST: Danny Tatom of Rabirtup Shares His Favorite Music Of 2017

Ghost Cult once again brings you “End Of Year” lists, memories, and other shenanigans from our favorite bands, partners, music industry peers, and other folks we respect across the world. In this post, Danny Tatom of Rabirtup shares his Top 10 Albums Of 2017.

“I don’t keep up with new releases as much as I should, but these are the releases I’ve liked a lot this year in various genres.”

Primitive ManCaustic

Just the heaviest thing I’ve ever heard. It still has that raw, dirty sound but with a clean mix so everything hits harder.

Favorite track: Commerce

Full of Hell + The BodyAscending a Mountain of Heavy Light

I have no idea how to describe this album, but I love it. Industrial noise hip-hop something or another. It’s a refreshing sound and I want more of it.

Favorite track: Earth is a Cage

Igorrr Savage Sinusoid

Igorrr is one of my favorite musicians, this album lives up to expectations and then some. I should have more to say about one of my favorites, but really just give it a listen and if you dig it he’s got 5 other albums to check out.

Favorite track: ieuD

Brutus Burst

Musically, this album is good, but her voice is what makes me keep it on repeat. I can’t get enough of her voice cracking when she sings.

Favorite track: Drive

CavernlightAs We Cup Our Hands and Drink from the Stream of Our Ache

I don’t listen to a ton of doom stuff, but I dig this cause of how emotional it sounds. It’s not just the sounds of the halls of Satan, it’s being sad that you’re at the halls of Satan.

Favorite track: To Wallow in the Filth That Dwells Where Despair Is Born

SOUNDINGTrepanation

Good ol’ noise grind mathcore nonsense. This was my favorite genre growing up, and maybe I’m just out of the loop, but this is the best release in that genre I’ve heard in almost 10 years. If the genre is dying I hope they’re bringing back a resurgence.

Favorite track: Holy Spunk

I Hate Sex World of Grief

Old school screamo/skramz at it’s best. Another one of my favorite genres I hope has a come back soon. Sometimes pretty, sometimes abrasive, always emotive.

Favorite track: And Yet It Moves

Couch SlutContempt

Another album I have no idea how to really describe, except that it’s like really angry noise rock. A nice change from most of the goofy, fun noise rock out there.

Favorite track: Summer Smiles

Friendship Hatred

Fun, fast powerviolence? At this point I can’t tell the difference between powerviolence and grindcore so I’m just going off the bandcamp tags. Either way it goes hard and is as nasty as it can be.

Favorite track: Execution

HeilungLIFA

I’m not sure this counts as metal, and it’s a recording of a live show, but god damn it is awesome. The album is on Spotify and all that, but the video is a way better experience.
