In a new series at Ghost Cult are we spotlighting our photography team with some forgotten photo sets and the stories behind them. Here, Dante Torrieri of Useless Rebel Imaging discusses a show with YOB and Dark Castle. You can see more of Dante’s photos and his new Patreon at the links below.
This was one of those shows that you don’t forget easily, hell I’m talking about it 9 years after it happened. I’ve known Mike from Yob for close to twenty years now, We first meet when I was out on tour with a local Portland OR black metal band Nyarlathotep (who have since faded from almost all memory except mine and maybe a few others). This was Yob’s first tour back after a multi-year hiatus with the story of Middian mixed in between. This one started out on a bit of a rough note with them playing in Toronto the night before and being delayed multiple hours by traffic, so no soundcheck just a quick line check and off to the races. This is one of those performances I captured in the past that the photos encompass the energy and vibe of the night, but I’ll still share a few details that I remember. Travis was unable to make it out on this tour and Rob from Dark Castle was filling in doing double duty every night playing about 45min each set each night (beast level). Yob proclaimed triumphantly on this tour that they were back and ready to climb to the top echelon of the heavy music world. I reached out for a quote about the performance from world-famous social media music mogul Matthew Bacon, “I wasn’t born yet, why are you asking me this?” I hope you enjoyed this brief trip down memory lane and I hope to share more stories in the future.
