Former Malevolent Creation Co-Founder Bret Hoffmann Dies At Age 51

Sad news to report as former Malevolent Creation vocalist and death metal legend Bret Hoffmann has passed away after a battle with colon cancer. He was 51. The news was revealed by his wife in a Facebook post. Hoffmann was diagnosed with stage-4 colon cancer last spring. Hoffmann was the co-founder of Malevolent Creation who got their start in Buffalo, NY before Relocating down to Florida to take part in that scene.

Bret helped create the style of the band on the first three Malevolent Creation releases. He left the band after 1993’s Stillborn album. He returned and performed on The Fine Art Of Murder and Envenomed before leaving again and being replaced by Kyle Symons. He rejoined again in 2006 and appeared on the group’s last three albums, 2007’s Doomsday X, 2010’s Invidious Dominion and 2015’s Dead Man’s Path. For the last few years, Bret has been involved with the Fire For Effect project in which he was joined by guitarist and songwriter Gio Geraca (Malevolent Creation, Ashes Of Ares), bassist Tony Choy (Pestilence) and drummer Mike Smith (Suffocation). Smith was later replaced by Derek Roddy (Hate Eternal, Nile, Malevolent Creation).

We send our condolences to Brett’s family, friends, and fans all over the world
