EP REVIEW: Guerilla Warfare – C O N T R O L

As the first band signed to Jason Aalon Butler‘s label 333 Wreckords Crew, Guerilla Warfare has a lot to live up to considering Butler’s previous works. C O N T R O L shows the group are able pull off something few bands manage to without being corny, combining metal, hardcore & hip hop.

Opening track ‘Flesh ‘n’ Bone’ demonstrates this phenomenally with chunky groove-laden riffs backing the vocalists spitting out equally aggressive, fast paced bars. There’s no doubt which label the band is on as the trio borrow some inspiration from Fever 333. This is continued in ‘Small Hillz’ as the band take turns in rapping out along to the beat, similar to the likes of Astroid Boys in their big track ‘Dusted’.

The groove takes the centrepiece of the EP, making it impossible to at the very least nod your head along to, or even start a mosh pit in your local shopping centre. The title track, ‘Control’ demonstrates this in spades. As soon as they break into “Guerilla Warfare, motherfucker, pick it up!” The atmosphere created can only be compared to the likes of Limp Bizkit. When this song hits live, you know everyone will be swinging from the ceiling and causing chaos.

Guerilla Warfare are clearly on the right track to become a big part of this scene. The undeniable groove and bounce gives this music a whole new lease of life. Rap metal may have been thought to have died alongside nu-metal, but if there are bands like Guerilla Warfare, the subgenre is going strong.
