CONCERT REVIEW: Theory of A Deadman – Skillet – Saint Asonia Live at Roadrunner Boston

The Rock Resurrection tour featuring Theory of a Deadman, Skillet, and Saint Asonia rolled into Boston at one of the city’s newest concert venues, Roadrunner. The show was sold out well in advance, so there was a long line of concert attendees, waiting to make their way into the building. As the crowd gathered towards the stage eagerly awaiting the start of the first band.

And just like that the house lights went down and Saint Asonia stormed the stage with high energy performing the song, “Better Place” to open up the band’s 45-minute set. Saint Asonia frontman Adam Gontier was phenomenal while performing many standout tracks like “The Hunted,” “ Above It All,” and “Let Me Live My Life”. They also played some songs from Adam”s former band Three Days Grace with amazing versions of “Never Too Late,” and “I Hate Everything About You”. The crowd sang along very loudly and lit up the capacity crowd with a sea of cell phone lights.

Now I have seen the band Skillet many, many times in the past, but they are definitely one never to miss. The production of the show is simply incredible with singer John Cooper using CO2 handguns; sprayers that shoot CO2 40 feet in the sky. Guitarist Korey Cooper is so full of energy, almost as if she will jump into the lighting rig above her. They open with the modern-day, arena anthem “Feel Invincible” and the crowd went off! Skillet must have seen old footage of KISS shows with giant video screens, Co2 cannons elevator lights, and a great show production-wise. This band will be headlining arenas soon. I wish I could have photographed the whole set. I can’t wait to see how they can top this experience.

Lastly, the band everyone was waiting for, Theory of a Deadman out supporting the latest record Dinosaur which coming out this month. Frontman Tyler Connolly playing a chromed-out telecaster walked out to the mic with a dark red light casting overhead. The song “Dinosaur” had a cool little riff that builds as the song progresses. I really enjoyed the set and was stoked to hear “Santa Monica” and “Wicked Game”. Watching Drummer Joey Dandeneau sitting way up high on the elevated drummer riser was an incredible part of the night. The whole set was full of good ole rock and roll tunes that Theory are known for. I think this was the 6th show of the tour and the shows have been selling out across the country. I recommend that you get a couple of tickets for yourself and your best lady and get to one of these shows if you can. It’ll be a great time.
