CONCERT REVIEW: Avatar – Magic Sword – Tallah – Live at Irving Plaza

The King welcomed fans back to concerts, at the great Irving Plaza, Avatar kicked off the fall season of tours with the Going Hunting Tour with Magic Sword and Tallah! The band spent 2020 not being able to tour as much, behind their incredible album Hunter Gatherer (eOne Music) and build off of the huge success of Avatar Country. As a band and brand they have really built a tremendous culture and following around the band, not unlike fellow Swedes Ghost have done for the last decade.

Since touring was out and they didn’t want to hold their album back until 2021, their released their album and did a series of groundbreaking live streams that really showcased the bands’ talent and depth. They kept busy and kept the fanbase engaged, which is all you could really do. And they went back to make new music! We just heard new songs in the form of two new singles. “Going Hunting” and “Barren Cloth Mother” – monster tracks now streaming to all DSPs. The band also recently announced their signing with Nashville label/distro Thirty Tigers and launched its own Black Waltz Records label imprint. We should see a new full-length before too long!

Magic Sword and Tallah were the openers on this night. Two very different, but good, entertaining and up and coming bands.

Avatar came on and put on an amazing show. They played a deep, eighteen-song setlist, showcasing their deep history, more recent cuts, and a lot of fan favorites. Catch the band on the rest of their North American dates this fall and all next year in Europe!
