CONCERT REVIEW: Alter Bridge – RED – Mammoth WVH Live at Roadrunner Boston

Boston Massachusetts was invaded by Alter Bridge and tour mates Mammoth WVH and RED for the Kings and Pawns Tour. Alter Bridge is out supporting the band’s latest effort which is a fantastic record. As I walked up to the venue a long line of music fans were eager to get into the building to get the night started. After a short wait as the nearly sold-out crowd filtered into Roadrunner one of Boston’s new venues.

Nashville Band RED opened the show with “Death of Me” off of Innocence & Instinct. Lead singer Michael Barnes delivered an outstanding vocal performance throughout the 6 song set, which included songs “Fearless” “Let it Burn” and “Breath into me”. RED were well received by the spectators still arriving at the show. Drummer Brian Medeiros laid down a solid grove along with brothers guitarist Anthony Armstrong and bassist Randy Armstrong. Their set was a little short to me and by the time they got going, it was over.

I looked forward to seeing Mammoth WVH again. I enjoyed the debut record a lot and that has been in heavy rotation on my record player since it came out. Wolfgang and the rest of Mammoth WVH took the stage and the audience cheered loudly. The opening song “Mammoth” was incredible to open the band’s set. Wolfgang is a super-talented musician and assembled a killer band behind him. The band played many songs off the first record including “Mr. Ed” “Think It Over” “Epiphany” and “Distance”. I will always go see this band whenever they come to my area. Im looking forward to them opening for Metallica this summer!

The night’s headliner Alter Bridge closed out the night with a fantastic set of old and new songs from an extensive catalog. In my opinion, Myles Kennedy is one of the best singers in the game. The band sounded amazing and Mark Tremonti played every note effortlessly. They played one of my favorite songs “Isolation” from their album Alter Bridge III. Overall the show was a phenomenal night of music by three great talents in the music world today. If you get a chance to see this tour in your closest venue make sure you get out to the gig. You won’t be sorry, I can assure you of that.
