Mexican Slang Book March Run Of Shows

Mexican Slang - Promo Shots

Mexican Slang is a Toronto based trio features vocalist Annabelle Lee, formed as her solo recording project which she recorded music in her attic an releasing her first EP in the summer of 2012. She later enlisted Jimmy Tony Rowlinson (Dilly Dally) on bass and Den Holm on drums in late 2012.

Stream “Fever” below.

Mexican Slang elicits comparison to the likes of Helium and “Babes in Toyland meets Ty Segall”. Lee’s primary focus has been coalescing the power of extremes, by juxtaposing heavy guitars with compelling melodies and contrasting droning psychedelia and noisy garage rock with moments of reverberant serenity. Though drawing personal influence from artists such The Melvins, The Cramps and Rowland S. Howard, Lee is poised to create a distinctive sound all her own.

With the support of Buzz Records, Mexican Slang plans to record a full-length album and tour Canada and the US in the upcoming year. Their haunting noise pop aesthetic and captivating live shows have set them apart, creating a far-reaching, eager and devoted fan base. As for Lee’s poignant lyrical depth, face-melting guitar and impassioned productivity, there seems to be no end in sight.

SIDE A:
1. Chemical Imbalance
2. Ticking Over

SIDE B:
3. Change Your Mind
4. I’m Into Something Good

The Kimberly Steaks are a three-piece pop-punk band from Glasgow. Their songs are really short and lightning fast; equal parts in pop and punk, reminiscent of bands such as early Green Day, MTX and Crimpshrine, along with others from the Lookout! era.

The band released their debut album To Live and Die in West Central Scotland in 2014 on All in Vinyl Records, to which they received lots of attention and praise within the UK punk community, and the album eventually gracing many end of year lists.

Slayer Releasing New Single “When The Stillness Comes” For Record Store Day

Slayer will release their first new track in over a year called “When The Stillness Comes” as part of Record Store Day on April 18, 2015, as announced by Slayer and Nuclear Blast.

Slayer Side A: “When the Stillness Comes”

It is accompanied by a live recording of “Black Magic,” from the band’s 1983 album Show No Mercy and recorded live at the 2014 Wacken Open Air Festival, will be available as a limited-edition (only 5000 copies worldwide), 7-inch vinyl picture disc exclusively at all participating independent record stories worldwide.

Slayer Side B: "Black Magic"

Slayer Side B: “Black Magic”

Slayer – Tom Araya, Kerry King and Paul Bostaph – recorded “When The Stillness Comes” last year in Los Angeles with producer Terry Date. Currently, the band is in the final stages of recording what will be its first new album since 2009’s Grammy-nominated World Painted Blood, which is expected out later this year.

The five time nominated, two-time Grammy winning metal act has been named as one of “The Big Four” with Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax that defined the thrash metal genre. With songs that mirror the turmoil and aberrations of our society – God’s terrifying global genocide, the chaos of our broken political system, chemical warfare, the hideous minds of serial killers, and the way-too-close proximity of world horrors that technology has brought us, Slayer remains crushing and brutal, steadfastly refusing to cater to the Mainstream. Slayer’s founding member, guitarist Jeff Hanneman passed in 2013, and Exodus guitarist Gary Holt has been filling in since. Paul Bostaph, who was Slayer’s drummer from ’94 – ’01, has rejoined bassist/vocalist Tom Araya and guitarist Kerry King, and is back behind the kit. Slayer is currently in the studio recording a new album set for a 2015 release.

alright pic

Charlotte, NC indie rockers Alright (featuring current and former members of Late Bloomer and It Looks Sad) will release their new Self-Titled EP on March 24, 2015 via Negative Fun Records with assistance from Self Aware Records. It will be released via 7-inch/digital, with a limited 300 colored vinyl pressing.

Stream “Cold Feet,” from the EP, here. Their first EP, Sleep Study, is streaming here.

Singer/guitarist, Sarah Blumenthal, began to play music with Joshua Robbins, currently of Late Bloomer, in 2013. After months of writing songs and finding their specific voice, the two decided they needed a full-time drummer to cement themselves. Enter Garrett Herzfeld, formerly of It Looks Sad, and Alright were now a fully-formed unit. The band takes the more direct approach to songwriting when compared to their other musical outlets. Most songs are no frills pop anthems coated in fuzz and sugary vocals.

Culture Abuse Streaming “Nicotine”

Bay Area quintet Culture Abuse will be releasing a new seven inch single Spray Paint The Dog, out February 17, 2015 via 6131 Records. Stream “Nicotine” here
and here.

Spray Paint The Dog tracklist:

1. Nicotine
2. Perfect Light

Culture Abuse are a wild pack of animals that have been stirring things up along the West Coast since Fall 2013. Their amalgamation of hardcore / punk with an almost psychedelic rock vibe is unlike anything ever heard before, feeling both vitally important and on the brink of disaster all at once.

Following the digital release of their debut EP, The Day Dreams of Nothing, 6131 Records quickly jumped at the chance to work with this incredible band. In Fall 2014, Culture Abuse recorded three new songs, two for this single (teasing an album to come later in 2015) and one included on a 12″ vinyl reissue of their debut. The songs on this Spray Paint The Dog 7″, “Nicotine” and “Perfect Light”, demonstrate their ever-evolving style, moving deeper into a pop-driven aesthetic. Culture Abuse are channeling the drugged-out, melodic sounds the Bay Area delivered in the late ’60s, yet are still remarkably refreshing.
