Baroness has announced their long awaited new album, and the officially confirmed title of Purple will be released on December 18th from their newly formed own label, Abraxan Hymns. The first track ‘Chlorine & Wine’ has been released in the form of an animated video complete with classic John Baizley artwork reveal. You can see the video at this link or below:
John Baizley has commented on the album:
“After releasing a lengthy and investigative record like Yellow & Green we all felt that we needed to make something much more direct and immediate. We wanted to write with our normal focus on artistry, balanced against an increased level of energy and focus. It was important for us to write our new songs with the type of enthusiasm and expressiveness that could act as a counterpoint to the album’s dark themes. As a result, the music came out in an intense, heavy and sonically captivating in a new way, which was important, loathe, as we are to fall into any kind of complacency pitfall or formulaic songwriting routine. Purple is the most fully realized representation of our intention as a band; considering the amount of physical and mental energy spent writing it, we have accomplished something which would have seemed impossible to us a couple of years ago.”

The band performs tomorrow at the Reading Festival and at the Leeds Festival on Sunday. North American tour dates are pending. The Purple will be the long awaited follow up to the critically acclaimed Yellow & Green (both Relapse) released in 2011. Less than a month after that album’s release the band was in a near fatal tour bus crash outside of Bath, England. The band resumed activities less than 8 months later with an appearance at South By Southwest in March of 2013 and has remained mostly on the road or in the studio ever since.
Montreal long form rockers BIG|BRAVE will be releasing their new album in late summer via Southern Lord. Their new album was recorded with Efrim Menuck (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Thee Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra) at Hotel2Tango.
The Things They Carried will be releasing their new album via Revival Recordings in May. Their new album Melancholia was produced by company president Shawn Milke and engineer Neil Engle (Alesana, A Skylit Drive, Dance Gavin Dance). The band will also venture on a brief May tour run with Bitter Kids and Caramel Carmela.

Australian thrash grinders King Parrot have inked a number of new recording deals for their upcoming record, which was recorded by Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down) in Nodferatu’s Lair Studio and is set to come out this spring via Agonia Records in Europe, Housecore Records in North America and Rocket/EVP in Australia.
Emerging through the baptism of fire of the Australian metal scene, King Parrot have pillaged their way to international recognition in a short period since 2011. Drawing influence primarily from the thrash, grind, hardcore and punk scenes of the 80’s and 90’s, a new sound was created fusing those styles and attitudes with a fresh approach that encapsulates their aggression, humour and intensity seamlessly.

Prestigious label In At The Deep End, who have been responsible for releasing breakthrough platters from acts such as Sylosis, Feed The Rhino, Suicide Silence and Gallows, have confirmed they have snapped up aggressive metalcore stars-in-waiting Prolong The Agony.
Hailing from Portsmouth, UK, the band have inked a deal with the influential label and are shaping up to release their debut EP All We Are on April 20, with a first full length to follow later in the year.
Frontman Larry Welling added: “Signing to IATDE is something we truly never expected and it’s humbling to say the least.
