Borknagar Working On New Album, Original Vocalist On Two Songs

borknagar

Norwegian post black metallers Borknagar have began recording a new studio album to follow up 2012’s Urd!, and original vocalist Kristoffer Rygg (aka Garm/Fiery G Maelstrom/Trixter G) has recorded vocals for two songs. Jens Bogren is set to mix at Fascination Street Studio (Opeth, Kreator, Katatonia), and is expected out in late 2015 via Century Media Records.

Borknagar’s Øystein G. Brun (guitars) comments:

“These days, 20 years ago, Kristoffer and I hooked up for the very first time in Bergen to record vocals for the BORKNAGAR debut album. Glorious days, indeed. Last night I was barely asleep as I got the first vocal samples from Kristoffer late yesterday evening – and have been listening to the songs repeatedly since then. Being a former bandmate and a huge fan of his work ever since we parted ways back in the days, I certainly did expect a lot, but what he sent over this time around surpass every expectations. Really! Still trying to get my jaw back in position and the goosebumps seem to have turned chronic on me.

Kristoffer performs the lead vocals for one full song called ‘Winter Thrice’ and does additional vocals for another opus called ‘Terminus’.

Being a profoundly nostalgic person, this makes me reflect about how damn lucky I am to have been able to work with some of the finest vocalists in the world, throughout the years. Musically the upcoming album will be a celebration of just that. Along with the vocals of Vintersorg, ICS Vortex and Lazare, it should be needless to argue that this will be a very special album! Massively so! More info will follow soon!”

Lamb Of God Vocalist Records Guest Vocals On Upcoming Sourvein Record

Lamb Of God vocalist Randy Blythe recorded guest vocals on the upcoming Sourvein album Aquatic Occult, due this summer via Metal Blade. Corrosion of Conformity bassist/vocalist Mike Dean is producing.

Amongst reading the page proofs of my book & getting the final edit and design version of that approved, getting all the photos ready for my gallery show, dealing with my band on the creative end & all the endless crap that comes with that, and doing press for my book, photo show, and upcoming band tours, I decided I needed a break. Where does an overloaded writer/photographer/musician/creative type go when he needs a break? To the studio to work on SOMEBODY ELSE’S project, of course! Here’s my buddy T-Roy of Cape Fear, NC’s infamous Sourvein tracking vocals for their new record, Aquatic Occult, which will be coming out later this year on @MetalBladeRecords. I love the lines in this photo! I went down to Raleigh, NC where Sourvein were tracking & added a little Randy into the mix- the record will have guest vocals by me on a song, a spoken word bit on another, a creepy organ part I wrote on another, and some samples I collected where ever T-Roy decides to put ’em. I have deep roots in the Cape Fear, so when it calls, I answer. It was good to hang with my homie, & I’m looking forward to @sourveinofficials new album when it drops- bringing the Southern heavy vibe to Metal Blade! Plus, it gave me a chance to work with Sourvein’s producer for this album, who is a PUNK ROCK LEGEND & has been a HUGE influence on me as a vocalist since I was in high school…

Clutch Frontman Speaks About New Album

Clutch frontman Neil Fallon recently spoke about the impact of “Earth Rocker” on their forthcoming album, out this fall via Weathermaker Music:

“Well, I guess there are two answers to that because we already finished recording our next record. It is in the process of being mixed right now. And I do recall that when we first started writing I kind of had a bit of a head game going on trying to preoccupy myself with upping the bar, and that only kind of created problems because that’s just unneeded pressure. Then I realized we never really thought that way when we were making Earth Rocker, so then I just kind of let go — and once I stopped fretting about that, it became a much easier record to write.”

He later added of the new album:

“I think in a lot of ways it is similar to Earth Rocker because we started writing it very quickly after we started touring for Earth Rocker, whereas in the past Strange Cousins from the West was four years before Earth Rocker. So, I think there is a lot of similarities. It may even, as whole, be faster than Earth Rocker. The songs might be more succinct than Earth Rocker. But at this point I have heard it so many times that I can’t make heads or tails or it at this point.”

Megadeth Frontman Comments On Addition Of Kiko Loureiro

kiko mustaine

Megadeth has confirmed the rumors of the addition of Angra guitarist Kiko Loureiro as their new guitarist. This news follows the confirmation of Chris Adler of Lamb Of God playing drums on the forthcoming album.

Dave Mustaine commented:

“I first met Kiko around 8 years ago for a cover shoot for Burrn! magazine. I had no idea who he was, other than the fact he was tremendously talented and that the staff from Burrn! held him in high regard. Since then I’ve come to see what a guitar virtuoso he is, and I’m deeply encouraged by his depth and talent. Very few Megadeth alumni have had the same feel and ability as Kiko. As Frank Sinatra says, “the best is yet to come!” -Dave Mustaine“
