Coming next week, on September 13th from Lesser Gods publishing, the first ever authorized visual history of Pantera: A Vulgar Display of Pantera. Created by noted photographer Joe Giron (AC/DC, David Bowie, U2, Gwen Stefani, The World Series of Poker) with a forward by Pantera’s Rex Brown and anecdotes from Vinnie Paul, the lovingly crafted, 400 page coffee table book offers a glimpse into the band rarely seen.It also serves as a tribute to the memory of late guitar legend Dimebag Darrell. Opeth To Release 25th Anniversary Commeoraitve Book Next Month

Long-running Swedish progressive metal band Opeth has announced the release for their 25th anniversary commemorative Book of Opeth, coming on April 15th via Rocket 88 Publishers. Pre-orders are available from opethbook.com. The book is a trove of photo and memories from the early days of the band, complete with a commentary from Mikael Åkerfeldt and original guitarist Peter Lindgren

Åkerfeldt commented: “There are photos in here I’ve never seen before.”

The book is told in the first-person by Mikael, the band, their friends, former members and collaborators and is illustrated throughout with hundreds of previously unseen, rare artworks and memorabilia.

Every copy of the first 4,000 books come with a vinyl pressing with acoustic versions of “Atonement” & “Demon of the Fall,” which will only be available in the Book of Opeth. The strictly limited edition, all numbered and signed by Mikael also includes three fine art prints by Opeth sleeve designer Travis Smith.

Randall Blythe has a pre-order available for his upcoming book Dark Days: A Memoir (Da Capo Press; July 14, 2015), he tells the story of his incarceration after landing in Prague for a concert in 2012 and was immediately arrested on manslaughter charges for the death of a fan two years prior.

Hardcore Legends to Attend Symposium at NYU to Release NYHC Book

New York University will be host to New York Hardcore Legends on Tuesday, February 24th to celebrate the release of NYHC: New York Hardcore 1980–1990 (Bazillion Points). Author Tony Rettman (Why Be Something That You’re Not: Detroit Hardcore 1979–1985) will be on hand, along with NYHC legends Richie Birkenhead (Underdog, Into Another, Youth of Today) and Walter Schreifels (Gorilla Biscuits, Quicksand, Youth of Today) for a discussion. Kelefa Sanneh (New Yorker, New York Times) will be the moderator. The event is FREE to the public and the book will be available for purchase.
