ALBUM REVIEW: Vomitheist – NekroFvneral

Vomitheist. It’s a band name that you hear or see and know exactly what you are in for. What exactly is a Vomitheist? Is it an instrument or a profession? Is it like an Atheist? Do they not believe in vomit, or do they worship it? Perhaps they are well-versed in all things regurgitation. Regardless of how or why they came up with their band name, what I can assure is that Vomitheist can write some sick ass and filthy Death Metal.

The band is a three-piece out of Switzerland and just like many other Europeans out there, they do a tremendous job of producing classic soul-crunching, face-melting, curb-stomping Death Metal. It seems you can’t go a week without another high-quality album coming from our fiendish friends. NekroFvneral (Transcending Obscurity) is the band’s first full-length release and deserves a chance to stand out.

For starters, there is a ton of variety going on here. The opening track is an absolute banger full of trashy riffs and sick vocals. It’s definitely one of those songs that you already want to revisit shortly after hearing it. The closing track is a twelve-minute plus musical journey that never overstays its welcome, and I usually groan and moan when I see a song that lasts longer than five minutes.

Sandwiched in between all of this is plenty to hold your attention and keep your head banging. Vomitheist’s sound is dark and murky, giving off a real underground dungeon feel. Songs vary in tempo ranging from mid-tempo to fast and filthy. The songwriting and structure are strong and consistent, while Vomitheist may be newer to the scene, they have definitely done their homework.

There are plenty of pummeling beatdowns, wispy winding solos, and crunchy riffs to be found throughout this recording. This is a solid release that demands your attention
