Volumes – Different Animals

Two words – Linkin Park. I’m sorry, because once you hear it there’s no un-hearing it. I will say this right off the bat, though – impressive guitar skills, and great vocals! It’s just that this is exactly the style of music that we’ve been subjected to for the past twenty years – in other words, it’s getting kind of boring! We’ve already heard it. There’s nothing wrong with being nostalgic, or having a sound all your own and remaining consistent in that – but times are changing!

Here’s the thing – every member of the band plays their instrument with raw passion and undeniable skill. Each track is organized well, and it’s evident that there was a lot of time, energy, and hard work that was put into the album. Volumes just welcomed a new lead singer to their group, and he’s seriously got some wicked pipes!

Myke Terry (ex-Bury Your Dead) brings a different kind of life to the band’s sound in the best possible way, and his voice shines through in each and every track on their newest album Different Animals (Fearless). However, the unfortunate truth still remains – the album is really nothing special.

Overall, it’s not an album that should go without listening to – because who knows, you might feel a little nostalgic and enjoy that a band is possibly attempting to “immortalize” that familiar sound. If that were the case, then kudos – you did it! If not, go see for yourself whether or not you’ll enjoy this nostalgic piece of nu metal familiarity.
