ALBUM REVIEW: God’s Hate – God’s Hate

Well, God’s Hate has gone out of their way to make sure you don’t confuse their sophomore LP with anything else on the rack. You know the one, God’s Hate (Closed Casket Activities) featuring the track ‘God’s Hate.’ And yes, that was a record store joke. If you don’t know what that means, ask your parents. It’s fitting too considering that the stuff on God’s Hate recalls an era before streaming or even iPods and Zunes (okay, really ask your parents).

What we have here on God’s Hate is the type of bruising meat and potatoes Metallic Hardcore of the nineties and early aughts. The type of stuff that Bury Your Dead and Full Blown Chaos brewed in their burly days. Hell, this stuff is so hardcore that the salty language bleeds onto every track and the movie samples roam free. Oh, God’s Hate has got samples ranging from Zack Snyder’s Watchmen to Addams Family Values. Kudos on the latter.

If the vocals on ‘Be Harder’ or ‘Finish the Job’ sound familiar it’s because Twitching TonguesColin Young co-fronts the band with Ring of Honor grappler Brody King. In case you missed those cues, ‘Six Feet Deep’ goes full on Twitching Tongues with its melodic choruses. It’s creative choices like the occasional clean singing and surprise lead guitar work on the title track and ‘Eternity of Hate’ that help steer God’s Hate from playing it too safe. I say this because it’s in the latter half of the album where the boys have some of their best material. Things keep building and then pay off near the end with ‘War Man’ and ‘Social Class Warfare.’ You’re going to want to pay attention to ‘Violence Unlimited’ as well with staccato riffage not unlike Pantera’s ‘Primal Concrete Sledge.’

Stick with God’s Hate. There’s some fun to be had here.
