Dee Snider Affiliated Petition for AC/DC to Play the SuperBowl has Nearly 30K Signatures!

As we previously reported, Heavy Metal legend Dee Snider has helped launch a Change.org petition to get the NFL to hire classic rock legends and recently reunited AC/DC to perform at the SuperBowl Halftime show. Originally started by a fan, Gina Di Lecce, the petition grew from fan outcry and Dee’s criticism on social media following this year’s halftime show performance from Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Heavy music is used constantly in sports, especially the NFL. Famously rock and metal bands such as Metallica, Foo Fighters, Avenged Sevenfold, and Guns N Roses (2020) have all performed on the NFL’s pre-game concert the day before. Anyone performing at the big game performs for free and must pre-record and lip-sync their performance, which is why some groups like Metallica have said definitely no to performing, while The Red Hot Chili Peppers infamously made fun of themselves lip-synching in 2014, with Flea being the most notorious culprit. They also were a guest of Bruno Mars and not a headliner themselves that night. The last real rock act to perform at the SuperBowl Halftime Show was The Who in 2010. in 2009. Anyway, sign the petition and let’s unite for rock and metal at The SuperBowl!

Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider Launches Petition for AC/DC to Play the SuperBowl Halftime Show

Heavy Metal legend Dee Snider has launched a Change.org petition to get the NFL to hire classic rock legends and recently reunited AC/DC to perform at the SuperBowl Halftime show. This sprung from Dee’s criticism on social media following this year’s halftime show performance from Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Dee didn’t find fault as much with the artists but the insulting lack of rock or metal. Heavy music is used constantly in sports, especially the NFL where both ‘Hells Bells’ by AC/DC and Metallica’s ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’ were heard early in the broadcast. Famously rock and metal bands such as Metallica, Foo Fighters, Avenged Sevenfold and this year Guns N Roses have all performed on the NFL’s pre-game concert the day before. Fans of Massive Wagons Petition To Keep Mural Dedicated To Band In Hometown

As reported earlier this summer, UK rockers Massive Wagons are gearing up for the launch of their exciting new album Full Nelson on August 10th via Earache Records. Fans in their hometown of Lancaster have launched a petition to keep their album artwork mural on the side of their local pub. The mural was a goodwill gesture and not an advertisement for the album, but the town feels differently. So far the plea for help has nearly 6,900 of the 7,500 signature being sought. Check out the petition below and lend them your support! Continue reading

Petition Circulates Calling For A Statue Of Ronnie James Dio In His Hometown

Dio from Holy Diver video ghostcultmag

A passionate fan of late legendary singer and metal music icon Ronnie James Dio has started a petition at Change.Org, calling for the construction of a statue in his honor to be built in Porstmouth, NH. Dio was born and raised in Portsmouth. Metal fan Brian Kelly started the petition, which passed the 1000 signatures mark after just a few days and is fast closing in on the first milestone of 1500. The petition calls on the City Council and Mayor of Portsmouth to honor Dio as well. Using the hashtag #BuildDio, fans from all over the world have responded, even though Change.Org is a USA-based entity. Dio who passed away in 2010 from cancer at age 67 is widely known as one of the most talented and endearing vocalists ever in music, not just heavy metal. Singing for bands such as Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio, and Heaven And Hell, he has been emulated and influenced by countless other artists. As a result there are numerous awards in his name, stages at metal festivals bare his mark, tribute bands and albums; and of course the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund charity as well.

There is currently no statue of Portsmouth native Ronnie James Dio, paragon of Rock and Roll, anywhere in Portsmouth.

Ronnie James Dio is a hero and a champion of art and deserves to be memorialized forever on his native soil. This petition is to help bring a statue, bust or memorial of Ronnie James Dio (born Ronald James Padavona; July 10, 1942 – May 16, 2010) to an agreed upon location in Prescott Park the South End of Portsmouth, NH

Dio was a musician that had, and still has, a great influence on many in the music industry. There are currently other towns and cities with Dio’s likeness, but at this time, his birthplace has nothing. Mr. Dio sold over 47 million albums in his life and is still selling today. He was a heavy hitter in bands like Elf, Rainbow, Dio, Black Sabbath and more. His contributions are undeniable. We have to do something.

This petition will help gauge and demonstrate interest in a tribute we can all agree upon. The tribute itself will be crowd or city funded (through provisions set aside in Portsmouth to pay for artistic installations) and multiple designs will be presented before asking for approval. We truly hope the city of Portsmouth will help us find the right tribute to one of the most influential musicians of our time.

We would like to set the statue in Prescott Park, the heart of the Arts in Portsmouth, honoring the legacy of this influential man. Preferably there would be a water feature on this memorialization considering our strong maritime tradition. We believe it should be constructed of metal (naturally). We would defer to the artists for all decisions, of course, and we are open to discussion.

We would love to see him him to be depicted as he was in the video for Holy Diver, sword in hand, ready to fight for the Arts and what is right. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkysjcs5vFU. We understand this might not coincide with the wishes of all, so we will of course work with the estate of Mr. Dio to determine how they would like him depicted.

Please consider signing. Throw up some horns with your other hand when you do.

UPDATED: Change.Org Petition For Pantera Reunion Presses On

Pantera

UPDATED: The Change.org petition demanding the return of Pantera is nearing its goal. The petition started by Pantera fan Kirsten Topperwein of San Antonio TX dubbed “The Pantera Project” surpassed 5000 signatures, its original stated goal. The new goal 7,500 signatures and now boasts a Facebook group to continue to drum up support. As previously reported by Ghost Cult the petition is calling for Pantera members Vinnie Paul Abbott and Philip H. Anselmo to reunite the band, along with bassist Rex Brown; and offering guitarist Zakk Wylde as a possible stand in for Dimebag Darrell Abbott, who was murdered on stage on December 8th 2004.

The statement from The Pantera Project:

For the past 12 years one of the most influential heavy metal bands in history has remained silent. After that horrific night where the metal community lost one of its most beloved guitarists – iconic guitarist Darryl “Dimebag” Abbott, Pantera has been relegated to “legendary” and “history”.

Aside from Dimes brilliance on stage, he loved his fans – and he showed it every time he was on stage. His passion for his craft, and his fans truly made him a metal guitar legend.
As fans first and foremost – and out of complete respect and love, our heart went out to the band with all they endured, especially to Vinnie his brother for his great loss.

But we are asking for what all true Pantera fans only wished could happen: To see Pantera live on stage again. We KNOW that no one could truly replace Dime. But his ‘brother’ in Metal Zakk Wylde could step into those shoes and make the universe right again. Dimebag and Zakk were close, if anyone could do this and have the big guy’s blessing, it would be Zakk Wylde.
So in a shout out to all the metal heads across the world: please sign our petition asking the band “With all due respect” to please consider a tribute tour to pay homage to Dime for his incredible life and all he stood for. Let us see the mighty Pantera take the stage and rock the world one more time. At the end of the tour, decide where it goes from there. As die-hard Pantera fans, this is what we are BEGGING for.

The Pantera Project greatly appreciates and thanks everyone for all your amazing support and efforts to truly honor an amazing person and musician who helped change heavy metal.
That is perfect!!!! Than

Pantera Reunion/Tribute To Dime

The hope of many fans is that Pantera could someday reunite in some form or another. Wylde is often mentioned as possible member of such a reunion or tribute, volunteering himself to the band and his fallen best friend’s memory. While all the surviving members of the band have performed Pantera songs live, and Anselmo and Brown have gone on record promoting at least a tribute of sorts, Dimebag’s brother Vinnie Paul has repeatedly squashed any kind of talk of a reunion. At the same time a less vocal group of Pantera fans and artists prefer the band never reunite at all.

This past summer Mayhem Festival and Warped Tour co-founder Kevin Lyman went on record claiming he had a desire to make a significant offer to entice a version of Pantera to form and become one of the headliners for the currently defunct Mayhem Festival.

Black Pussy Addresses Protests, Controversy Over Their Name

Black Pussy Magic Mustache album cover

Black Pussy, who released a new album Magic Mustache (Made In China Records) in February, has faced opposition and defaming due to the bands name involving protests over whether or not their name is offensive. The protests included a Change.org petition, show cancellations, and even personal threats against the band online. The band has released a statement addressing this:

WE GOT 99 PROBLEMS BUT A BAND NAME AIN’T ONE

a statement from Black Pussy

Some people think our music is “awesome” but won’t wear our T-shirt in public.

Some people think our music “sucks” but that our amps are “cool.”

Some people “love our band” and come see every single show we play in their city.

The common denominator with all three statements is that everyone has a different opinion about our band. And what’s so great about that is no one is forced into having “this” opinion or “that.”

Miriam-Webster defines “double entendre” as ambiguity of meaning arising from language that lends itself to more than one interpretation. That is the meaning of our band name. That there isn’t a specific meaning. That’s why we love this band name. We love Black Pussy and we are never going to change our name.

People have expressed outrage at the supposed origins and intentions of the name. Our band name was chosen BEFORE our knowledge that the Rolling Stones song Brown Sugar had a working title of Black Pussy. But the ultimate decision to roll with the name was encouraged by what we found out.

Miriam-Webster defines “satire” as the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices. At the time when Mick Jagger wrote Brown Sugar he was in an intense year long secret love affair with Marsha Hunt, a black actress and model. Both have cited her inspiration for the song. But that begs the question; why would a woman whom he is madly in love with inspire such scandalous lyrics about taboo subjects like slavery, interracial sex, cunnilingus, and less directly, sadomasochism, virginity, rape and heroin? Satire often professes to approve of (or at least accept as natural) the very things the writer wishes to attack. When looking at the lyrics through a satirical lens they begin to take on anti-rape and anti-slavery connotations. It’s doubtful that this was done consciously, but a spontaneous and uncensored approach to art is absolutely crucial for the dissemination of creativity, no matter who is offended.

The lamest thing about all the click-bait articles and comment threads is…well, the stupidity. People espouse their opinions about the way these two words make them feel. At best they get information wrong. At worst they’re character assassinations. Communication is a vital tool of our continued free existence, and in no way should anyone censor discussion, least of all us, when people write ignorantly crass posts online. But it cannot be understated that elements of our digital culture are incredibly knee-jerk and weak minded. There are no medals to give the person with the most hurt feelings.

If you’re upset by the band name we think there are far better outlets for your time and energy . Both of those are extremely valuable commodities, time and energy, and we wish to maximize the way in which we spend them. We encourage you to do the same. Complaining about our name and calling for a boycott of us and the venues that book us are all well and fine, but it’s not going to hurt us. Rather, and ironically, all of this attention emboldens the band’s momentum and exposes more people to our music. Mike Patton once said, “Bad press is the best press.”

Throughout all of this our message has been pretty consistent; FUN. Have fun. Make love. Feel good about life. Fight things that take away your personal freedoms. Be positive. Fuck the people who try to put you down.

We love our fans. Let us say that again. We love our fans. Without them we would be singing into the void. We work our asses off year round to bring our music across the country and it is both a challenging and joyful experience. We accept all responsibility for the repercussions that our name brings. Ultimately, the music is what should be scrutinized rather than the clothes we wear or the name we chose. But whatever. Trolls are gonna troll, complainers are going to complain and people who get it are going to keep on getting it. And to those who get it we say…Viva la Pussy!

Love,
Black Pussy
