Igorrr and Amen-Ra on the same bill would already be a joyful tour to catch, but the show tonight at 013 is like a mini pre-pandemic Roadburn day, with Hangman’s Chair and Der Weg einer Freiheit joining this monster of a bill. While the start of the show is quite early, and the closed-off balcony and stairs imply not a huge amount of tickets sold, the ambiance is cheerful and the crowd is warming up as we wait for Hangman’s Chair to start as we get in from the icy rain outside.
This tour package is one of the many that were postponed from the pandemic, originally expected in early 2020, but now two years later, Heilung finally returns. Sadly, not with the original support of Gaahls Wyrd, but bringing the equally if differently impressive Eivør, and Lili Refrain. Tonight is a night with a theme of mythic vocals and the gods of old.
Back in the saddle after a prolonged hiatus I got to cover some Black Metal for Ghost Cult Magazine in 013 Tilburg on the 29th of September 2022. It’s good to walk the halls of the familiar venue again after a few years of mostly quiet, and several months since Roadburn. Tonight we come for Watain’s new album tour, The Agony & Ecstasy of Watain. They are joined tonight by Bölzer, Tribulation and Abbath, an excellent package.
Roadburn Festival was unfortunately canceled in 2021 and is coming back as a virtual event in 2021. This online version of the festival, titled Roadburn Redux, will feature performances broadcast live from the 013 venues in Tilburg, as well as pre-recorded and exclusive content, and will take place between April 16-18. The event will still have the same pillars of greatness Roadburn is best known for: the best underground bands in the world, one of a kind supergroups and commissioned pieces of music, art featuring official festival artist for 2021 Lucile Lejoly Land a lot more. Check out the initial program and some of the bands participating such as Hexvessel, Jo Quail, Wolvenest, Gold, and others.
Dutch symphonic metallers Epica have launched a brand new music video for the track ‘Universal Love Squad’. Long-revered European music festival Roadburn kicks off four days of heavy, avant-garde and challenging music and art experiences in Tilburg, NL. Dutch black metal entity Kjeld has been added to the bill due to Cocatenatus dropping off due to a family situation. Roadburn 2018 is shaping up to be another incredible festival. In addition to the main lineup of bands, and special programs, Roadburn has announced its Cul de Sac lineup of special bands in Roadburn’s most intimate venue as well as the site of its Pre-Party.
